Cherries are small red stone fruits that grow from several species of trees in the Prunus genus. Cultivated cherries are divided into the sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and the sour cherry (Prunus cerasus), sometimes also called tart cherry. There are many species within the Cerasus subgenus, though only a few of these are commercially cultivated.
