Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora), also called Brazilian cherry, Cayenne cherry, cerisier carré, monkimonki kersie, ñangapirí, pitanga, and shimarucu, is the fruit of a plant native to South America's east coast. The edible berries have sweet and sour flavor, and are predominantly used for jams and jellies. In Uruguay, the leaves are used for tea.
