Vada or bada is the name for a large group of deep-fried fritters and doughnuts served across south Asia. They can be made with a sago or potato base, or with legumes including pigeon peas, chickpeas, and green gram.
In North India and Pakistan, they are usually known as bhalla. Indian emigrants to the Caribbean introduced the dish, and it is now popular in Trinidad and Tobago, where it is known as bara.
