Dessert soup is any sweet primarily liquid food. Sweet soups are relatively uncommon in most cuisines, but a few notable examples exist.
In European cuisine, there is a tradition of fruit soups, especially in the Scandinavian countries. For example, blåbärssoppa, originally from Sweden, is made from bilberries.
In Cantonese cuisine, tong sui are a family of sweet soups, often based on sesame, red beans, or sesame, which are served as between-meal treats or at the end of a meal. Hong dou tang, for example, is made with red beans, dried tangerine peel, sugar, and lotus seeds.
A number of Japanese sweet soups are sold in specialized dessert cafés. One of the most common is shiruko, a sweet soup of anko red bean paste, often garnished with soft mochi balls. When served a little thicker or chunkier, it is called zenzai.
