Spring onion (Allium fistulosum), bunching onion, long green onion, and Welsh onion, also called negi in Japan, is a long, thick variety of green onion. Historically, it was also known as the cibol, in Cornwall they are called chibbles, and in Scotland as sybies or syboes.
Word origin
The name "Welsh onion" does not actually derive from Wales, but from an archaic use of the term "welsh" meaning "non-native." The species is native to China.
