Chankonabe is a Japanese nabemono hearty stew, eaten by sumo wrestlers to increase their weight, or simply as restaurant food. It is made with chopped chicken on the bone, vegetables, fish, and tofu, with shoyu, vinegar, and negi. Historically, the flesh of quadrupeds was not used, because falling to all fours meant a defeat in sumo, but this custom is less commonly observed today.
