Arare are small Japanese rice crackers, available in a very wide variety of shapes and flavors, intended as accompaniment to green tea, cheeses, or light drinks. Popular varieties include norimaki arare, wrapped in nori; kaki-no-tane, shaped into cresents that evoke a persimmon (kaki) seed, and hina arare, which resemble tiny eggs.
In the Hawiian islands, arare are called kakimochi.
Contrast with senbei, which are somewhat larger.
