Allspice is the dried berry of the Pimenta dioica tree. Allspice is used widely as a savory spice across the Caribbean and Mexico and in Middle Eastern cuisine. In Northern European and American cooking, ground allspice is used in pumpkin pie, banana bread, and cookies. It is also commonly used in barbecue sauces, or whole for canning, soups, and mulled wine or cider.
Allspice is one of the ingredients in the British spice blend known as "mixed spice."
