Wat, or wot, is the Ethiopian term for a stew. The equivalent term in Eritrean cuisine is Tsebhi. These are typically seasoned with hot berbere chili powder and niter kibbeh seasoned butter.

Word origins

Derived from Ge'ez 'awsdha, Ethio-Semitic root wsh "pour". Possibly related to Hebrew yāṣaq, "pour".
