Achar, also known as achaar, athanu, loncha, oorugai or avakaai, also known simply as South Asian pickle, is a mixture of vegetables and fruits preserved in brine, vinegar, and oil with spices.

Name origins

Hindstani achar, from Persian ācār, "powdered or salted meats, pickles, or fruits, preserved in salt, vinegar, honey or syrup."
