Zalabiyeh is a fritter or doughnut common to a number of Middle Eastern cuisines. It is made with a yeasted wheat flour batter, which is poured into hot oil and deep fried, and then garnished with a sugar syrup, powdered sugar, or other topping. They are a popular street food, and are also frequently enjoyed during the month of Ramadan.
Zalabiyeh are closely related to jalebi (with which they share a recognizable name) and also clearly have been mutually influenced by gulab jamun.
