Turtle is a general term for reptiles with hard bony shells. The terrapin is a small freshwater turtle, native to the northeastern United States, that was raised in captivity and extensively hunted for the turtle soup market until the early 1900s.
Turtle can also refer to chocolate and caramel confection with pecans; for more see Turtle (candy). The original "chocolate turtles" arranged the pecans around a central candy to look like the head and feet of a turtle, but the term now refers to any confection combining these flavors.
