Chakhchoukha or chekhechoukha is a dish of Algerian cuisine, eaten often on festive celebrations, especially popular in the Aurès region. The dish consists of small pieces of rougag (a flatbread) mixed with marqa, a stew.
The term chakhchoukha has obvious similarity to shakshouka, a dish that is also popular in cultures on the Mediterranean. While the preparations are fairly different, the dishes probably share a linguistic basis through the Arabic root sh-k-sh-k, associated with "mixing" or "breaking."
