Water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) is a semi-aquatic, tropical plant grown as a vegetable for its tender shoots. This plant is also known in English as river spinach, water morning glory, water convolvulus, or by the more ambiguous names "Chinese spinach", Chinese watercress, Chinese convolvulus or swamp cabbage. In Southeast Asia, it is known as kangkong in Southeast Asia, ong choy or tung choi in Cantonese, and kōngxīncài in Mandarin.
