Timbale refers to a mold or bowl, of metal, earthenware, or china, or to a dish prepared in this mold, usually lined with a crust of pastry, bread, rice, or vegetables. The entire dish is baked to brown the crust and heat the filling, or heated with a water path if browning is not desired.
