A pu pu platter is an appetizer plate containing Hawaiian-American or Chinese-American finger foods, called pu pus. The pu pu platter concept was probably developed as part of the Polynesian cultural boom in the United States in the 1930s, but has since become a feature both of Hawaiian restaurants and of Chinese-American restaurants across the continental United States.
