Mazurek is a Polish term for shortcrust pies, which are baked especially for Easter. They can be made with multiple layers of short pastry, or a layer of short pastry covered with butter sponge cake, which are usually bound with marmalade. They are then finished with a layer of icing or caramel cream (see kajmak), and decorated with nuts and candied fruits.
