Flan in US usage, is a sweet custard, often garnished with caramel sauce; it is also known as crème caramel. In British usage, flan is an egg-based savory or sweet tart with a shortcrust or sponge base. In Mexican cuisine, flan was combined with a chocolate cake base to create chocoflan.
