A Devonshire split is a small, lightly sweetened bread roll that is served as an alternative to a scone as part of a cream tea. The cream tea ritual, as practiced in Devonshire, is to cover each half of the bread with clotted cream, and then apply strawberry jam. The Devonshire split is smaller than the Cornish split, a similar bread roll used for cream tea in Cornwall.
