Ceremito is a sweet bread from associated with a courtship ritual on the island of Elba. It is an enriched sweetened bread seasoned with olive oil, orange, and anise, which is formed into a female sexual symbol. It is offered by men to their partners as a proposal on Palm Sunday; if the woman is interested, she reciprocates with a gift of a sportella.
