A beer brat is a bratwurst sausage prepared by simmering in beer and onions, which is a technique particular to the state of Wisconsin in the American Midwest.
It is closely related to Bratwurst in Biersauce, a German technique that is nearly identical except that the beer sauce is usually thickened and served with the bratwurst.
