Wheat germ is a grain product made by grinding the germ of the wheat berry. Normally, the germ is removed during the milling of white flour.
Wheat germ is easily added to recipes including shakes, baked goods, and casseroles. It provides fiber and many essential nutrients including vitamin E, folate, phosphurus, thiamin, zinc, magnesium, and fatty acids.
Wheat germ is high in polyunsatured fats, which can become rancid if exposed to air or sunlight. Wheat germ should be kept in a cold, tightly-wrapped, and dark place.
