Watergate salad, also known as Pistachio Delight, Shut the Gate Salad, or Green Fluff, is a side dish or dessert salad made from pistachio pudding, canned pineapple, whipped topping, crushed pecans, and marshmallows. It is a popular dish in the Upper Midwest of the United States.
Not to be confused with Green goddess dressing, which is made with mayonnaise and herbs.

Name origins

The origin of the salad's name is unknown. It does not appear to be associated with the Watergate Hotel; however, the recipe was popularized in the mid 1970's when the Watergate scandal was prominent in the public mind.
