Trifle is a British dessert made by layering whipped cream, custard, sponge cake, almond macaroons, and raspberry or strawberry jam. It is a more substantial version of another popular British dessert, the fool.
In Scotland, trifles are often spiked with Drambuie, and called tipsy laird.
