Tamales de Anís are tamales seasoned with anise, and often sweetened with sugar and dried prunes or raisins.
They are often prepared in central and southern Mexico and parts of Central America, where anise is a common spice in both sweet and savory dishes.
A recipe for tamales de anís was included in El cocinero mexicano, which is considered the oldest cookbook on Mexican cuisine, published in 1831.
