Squid lū'au is a Hawaiian version of the Polynesian lū'au stew, which is traditionally made with taro leaves , coconut milk , onions , garlic , and a meat, often octopus , chicken , pork , or beef . Squid is not actually required for the dish and many preparations substitute other meats.
