Seafood chowder, or fish chowder, are traditionally simple, rustic soups made with fresh seafood, root vegetables, and cured meats. They were made by fishing communities with what they had on hand.
Modern fish chowders often continue this tradition by using salt pork or bacon, potatoes, and simple milk or cornstarch-thickened broths.
