Sauterne (note lack of trailing 's', typically uncapitalized), is a semi-generic label in the United States for a sweet white dessert wine. It is so named in recognition of the Sauternes (trailing 's', always capitalized) Appelation Origin Controlée (AOC) wine-producing region of France and the distinctive wines produced in that area.
