Pandowdy is an American and Canadian fruit dessert. Like pie and cobbler, it is made with a flaky pastry crust over a sweet fruit filling, but unlike these desserts, the top crust is deliberately broken late in the baking process, allowing the sweet juices to flow over the pastry and make sweet glaze. In some variations the pastry pieces are stirred back into the fruit.
