Muskellunge, or muskie, is a species of pike native to North America. It is the largest member of the pike family, and a prized sport fish.
Name origins
Muskellunge derives from Ojibwe maashkinoozhe, maskinoše or mashkinonge "big pike" or "ugly pike", and the Algonquin word maskinunga, from which the French maskinongé is derived.
