Kümmelweck (German, "caraway roll") is a Kaiser roll topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds. It is particularly well known as an ingredient in the beef on weck sandwich, a regional specialty of Buffalo, New York. The roll's crusty texture and distinctive caraway-salt topping are key characteristics. Though primarily known in connection with the Buffalo sandwich, the roll itself is a traditional German-style bread.
