Italian wedding soup, also called Pittsburgh wedding soup, is an Italian-American soup, consisting of greens and meatballs, often with a small pasta, in a chicken broth. Escarole, endive, lettuce, kale, and spinach are all used for the greens. It is a common dish in Italian-American restaurants.
The name of the dish is the result of a mistranslation of the original Italian dish, minestra maritata, which translates as "wedded broths," implying that the dish contains harmonious flavors.
