Gianduja is a confectionery ingredient of chocolate mixed with a fine nut paste. It is most often made with hazelnuts but other nuts can be used.
Nutella-branded chocolate-hazelnut spread is a commercial modification of the traditional gianduja recipe.

Name origins

After Gianjuda, a character in the Piedmontese commedia dell'arte, where the confection was first made.
