Gervais is a French brand of Petit suisse cheese. It is a soft, spreadable cheese with a small amount of tang, something like an American cream cheese.
The Gervais company was created in 1850, and was the first to market Petit suisse. It merged with Danone in 1967 and is now a brand of the Danone company, used primary for fromage frais.
