Election Day cake is an American cake that was traditionally served on Election Day, typically the first Tuesday in November. Recipes vary but typically they are a yeast-risen shortening and flour cake with eggs, spices including clove and nutmeg, lemon zest and juice, and raisins. In the 19th century it was common to add whiskey to each loaf.
