A chicken stew is a stew that features chicken as an ingredient. There are hundreds of chicken stew variations found all over the world.
Because stewing is particularly suited for older, tougher meats, many traditional chicken stews are designed to make use of older hens or roosters. While this is less relevant now that most chicken meat is industrially farmed, some grocers still sell "stewing hens" which are egg-laying birds that have reached the end of their productive lives.
