Birnbrot, or Birewegge, is a Swiss holiday pastry. A filling of dried pears, raisins, walnuts, candied fruits, and spices is wrapped in a yeasted dough and baked. It is very similar to birnweggen, differing only in how the pastry is assembled.

Name origins

Birnbrot, German "pear bread" or Bireweege, German "pear bun".
