Açai, or açai berry, is the fruit of the the Açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea), a tree native to the Amazon basin. Each fruit is approximately 1–2 cm in diameter and consists of a single large seed surrounded by a thin layer of edible pulp. Originally a staple food for many indigenous communities, it has gained international popularity as a health food, commonly consumed as a frozen purée or in beverages and bowls.
The açaí na tigela bowl is a commercial version of the original Brazilian dish, which has became internationally popular as the açaí bowl. The fruit's global demand has spurred significant export activities, transforming it into an economic driver in the Amazon region.
