Pionono is a sweet or savory pastry from Spain, the Caribbean, South America, and the Philippines. Techniques used for the pionono vary.
- In the Philippines, a rolled sponge cake with various sweet fillings is often used (see Brazo de Mercedes).
- In Puerto Rico, piononos are often savory and made with plantains wrapped around meat, seafood or vegetables, and then fried.
- In South America, a flour and egg dough is wrapped around sweet or savory fillings, and then baked (see Brazo de Gitano)
- In Spain, piononos are thin rolled pastries which are soaked in syrup and topped with toasted whipped cream.
