Delele is the Zimbabwean, Zambian, north-eastern Botswana and Northern South African term of okra, or for dishes made with it. These dishes are often eaten with the thick maize porridge variously called sadza, phaletšhe or vhuswa.
It is prepared with baking soda and well known for its slimy texture. It is sometimes dried before cooking, but more frequently it is cooked fresh.
