Curly endive or frisée is a cultivar of Cichorium endivia, with narrow, green, curly outer leaves and crisp white inner leaves. It is sometimes called chicory in the United States and is called chicorée frisée in French. It is well-known in French cuisine for salade frisée, in which it is the distinctive ingredient.
