In Indian usage, "curd" means home-made yogurt, while "yogurt" is used for heat-treated commercial yogurt. This differs from European and North American usage, where "curd" means the protein left behind after rennet or acid-based separation of whey from milk. Natural Indian yogurt is also called dahi, doi, perugu, and thayir.
