Crème de cacao is a type of chocolate liqueur. It comes in two varieties: white (clear) and dark (brown). It has a light, sweet flavor profile, often emphasizing more of the cacao's aromatic elements and less of a rich, chocolatey taste. Despite its name, it contains no cream; the term "crème" refers to the higher sugar content, which makes it sweeter and more syrupy.
It is nearly always used an ingredient in dessert cocktails, such as the Brandy Alexander, the Grasshopper, and the Chocolate Martini.
