Cream sherry is a type of sherry, or fortified wine, originating from Jerez, Spain. It is distinct from other styles of sherry primarily by its sweetness and blending methods.
While "sherry" refers broadly to a range of fortified wines made from white grapes, typically Palomino, including dry styles like Fino and Amontillado, cream sherry is made by blending a dry sherry base, often Oloroso, with Pedro Ximénez or Moscatel wine or grape must, thus producing a richer, sweeter profile.
Its commonly feature flavors of toffee, caramel, dried figs, raisins, and nuts, with a velvety, full-bodied texture and a lingering, sweet finish. Cream sherry traditionally serves as a dessert wine or accompaniment to cheeses and pastries.
