Bartlett pear, called Williams pear in Europe, is a variety of pear. The common variety is yellow when ripe; a variety that ripens to a red color, called Red Bartlett, is also cultivated. In French, the variety is called Poire William, but this term has come to refer to a distilled alcoholic eau de vie made from these pears. (see Poire William)
