Ark clam, or ark shell, is the name for a family of saltwater clams in the family Arcidae. There are some 200 species worldwide.
They are cultivated for eating in east Asia and the Caribbean. When they are used for sushi, they are called akagai. In Japan, they are eaten raw with a dipping sauce of wasabi or sanbaizu, or served on sushi, used in soups, or prepared as namasu, nitsuke, or yakimono.
