Zigeunersauce is a German sauce, possibly inspired by French à la zingara, made with tomato paste, paprika, and bell peppers . The name of the sauce is considered offensive to the Romani, for whom "Zigeuner" was a derogatory term similar to the English use of "gypsy." Commercial products are now more likely to be titled "Paprika Sauce Hungarian Style," though the term is still used in the restaurant trade.
