Toasting is a technique of browning by applying direct heat. It is most frequently mentioned in referenced to toasted bread, usually simply called toast.
It is frequently a synonym for "roasted", especially in the context of nuts and seeds, but "roast" can also be used to describe cooking a large piece of meat in an oven.
Note also that a "toast" can be a social call to drink to someone's health.
