Sweet catawba wine is an American wine made with the juice of the Catawba grape. While the Catawba is a red grape, it produces light-colored wines, which can be as pale as a rosé. Many Catawba wines are fairly sweet, with moderate acidity and medium body.
Catawba wines are sometimes called "foxy", a term applied to wines made with American grapes (Vitis labrusca). This refers to a particularly aroma found in wines made with these grapes, which has been described as "earthy", "wild" or "musky".
