Rumtopf is a German and Danish dessert of mixed fruit and rum. It is traditionally served around Christmas.
It is made by placing various fruits, sugar, and high-proof rum into a stoneware pot (the Rumtopf), which is often elaborately decorated. Traditionally, fruits are added over the course of the summer and fall as they come into season. The final product is served in winter, often as a topping for pound cake, waffles, baked apples, or ice cream.
